FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Camden County Board of Education has appointed G. Wayne White to fill Dr. Jason Banks’ Board of Education seat for the remainder of the term.  Mr. White served on the Camden County Board of Education from 1998 to 2014, and his tenure on the Board included serving as the Vice-Chairman for two years and as the Chairman for five years, as well as receiving Level I and Level II North Carolina School Boards Association Master Board training. During his time on the Board of Education, he was also a member of the North Carolina School Boards Association All-State School Board for three years and received the Raleigh Dingman Award for North Carolina School Board Association's Outstanding Board Member of the Year, the highest honor given to a North Carolina school board member each year that recognizes leadership at the local, state or federal level.  Mr. White has served as a local board advisor to the North Carolina State Board of Education, as a member of the North Carolina Virtual School Board of Directors, and on the Ad Hoc Committee for Superintendent Standards. He has also served on numerous local community boards and organizations, including as the Chairman of the Albemarle Area Salvation Army Advisory Board, the Chairman of the Elizabeth City CrimeLine Board of Directors, a member of the Albemarle Area Chamber of Commerce Education Committee, and as treasurer of the Camden County 4-H Foundation. Mr. White is a graduate of Camden County High School, class of 1977, and continued his education at the Norfolk Naval Air Rework Facility Apprenticeship School. He then went on to complete 39 years of civil service to both the Naval Aviation Depot and the USCG Aviation Logistics Center. Mr. White is married to Bobbi White and they have two sons, Matthew and Zachary, both of whom are graduates of Camden County High School.  Mr. White wants to support public education in Camden County and be a strong advocate for the students, teachers, and staff of Camden County Schools. 

The Camden County Board of Education will resume its November 14, 2024, regular meeting on November 20, 2024, at 7 p.m. at the Central Office.

ANNOUNCEMENT The Board of Education for Camden County is accepting applications to fill one vacancy on the Camden County School Board. Anyone interested, qualified, and eligible to serve on the Camden County Board of Education by temporary appointment is required to complete an online application located on our district website (https://www.ccsnc.org). To be a Qualified Candidate a person must: • Be at least 18 years of age; • Reside in and be a permanent resident of Camden County; and • Be otherwise eligible to hold elective office in North Carolina. Applicants must complete all required fields on the application. Information submitted in the application is public data and may be subject to release upon request. We were recently made aware of a potential threat against schools with a Camden reference. We have been in communication with the Camden County Sheriff's Department, and at this time, we have no evidence that it is a credible threat, or even a reference to Camden County Schools in North Carolina. The safety of our students and staff is a priority of Camden County Schools. We are thankful for students and families who support our school system and inform us when they see or hear anything that could potentially impact schools. We encourage you to continue to be vigilant and to communicate any concerns.

The purpose of the meeting is 1) to hold a closed session to discuss one or more confidential personnel matters as allowed by N.C.G.S. 143-318.11 (a)(6) and to consult with the Board Attorney regarding matters protected by the attorney/client privilege and to preserve that privilege as allowed by N.C.G.S. 143-318.11(a)(3); 2) to consider the qualifications for potential firms to serve as a construction manager at risk for the High School construction project; 3) to take action in open session to select a construction manager at risk for the high school building project; and 4) to take personnel actions in open session following the closed session."
